Transfer pathways search

Students entering the Indigenous Studies Foundations Certificate program in Fall 2026 or later will receive the following 5.0 credits, provided they meet eligibility requirements:

• 0.5 INDG 1002H - Foundations of Modern Indigenous Life
• 4.0 unassigned Indigenous Studies credits at the 1000 level
• 0.5 unassigned Arts credit at the 1000 level

Students who entered the Indigenous Studies Foundations Certificate program prior to Fall 2026 are encouraged to contact Trent University for information about transfer credits received through this pathway.

To qualify for this pathway, students must:

• Successfully complete Algonquin College's Indigenous Studies Foundations Certificate;
• Achieve a minimum overall average of 75%.

Students interested in degree programs not included in this pathway are referred to the Trent University website for information about admission requirements. Applicants will be considered in accordance with Trent University's general admission requirements. Students who meet the terms of the pathway will be eligible to receive the block of credits, but all transfer credits received may not be apply in full to all degree programs. 

Applicants who do not meet the minimum average requirements, but who are otherwise admissible to Trent University, will be considered for admission based on general admission requirements.

Program Residency Requirement

Students must complete the following 5.0 credits to fulfill requirements for the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Indigenous Studies:

• 0.5 INDG 1001H - The Foundation for Reconciliation
• 1.0 INDG 2100Y - Introduction to Indigenous Knowledge
• 1.0 INDG 3813Y - Indigenous Studies Research Methodology
• 0.5 INDG 4201H - Honours Collegium
• 0.5 INDG 4202H - Honours Collegium: Building a Four Directional Understanding
• 2.0 additional Indigenous Studies credits at the 4000 level
• 9.5 additional credits, including:
  • At least 3.0 credits at the 3000 and/or 4000 level;
  • No more than 1.5 credits at the 1000 level.

*Additional notes: Choice credits must include at least 0.5 credit from each of the four Indigenous Studies course categories:

• Category A: Indigenous Knowledge, Culture and Languages
• Category B: Indigenous Lands, Politics and History
• Category C: Theories, Methods and Practice
• Category D: Cultural Expressions and Performance

This Agreement will be reviewed annually, or more frequently if significant curriculum changes occur at either institution that may impact the pathway. Either party may terminate this Agreement by providing one year's written notice to the other party. In the event of termination, the parties will make reasonable efforts to ensure that students currently enrolled in the pathway are able to complete their studies without disruption.
