Mobility and transfer for postsecondary students
Learner mobility means the ability to move between programs or institutions without losing the progress you’ve made. For postsecondary students, this often involves transferring credits or using structured pathways.
Transfer is one way learner mobility works. It happens when you move from one program or institution to another and receive credit for completed courses.

How transfer works
You can transfer at any point during your postsecondary studies — whether you’re changing programs, moving to a different institution, or continuing your education after a break. ONTransfer can be used as a pre-transfer planning tool, helping you understand your options before you make a decision.
There are two main ways to transfer
Transfer pathways
A transfer pathway is a defined route showing how credits apply between programs. Pathways outline eligibility requirements and explain how your completed courses or credentials will be recognized at the receiving institution.
What to do:
The Transfer Pathways shows how programs connect across Ontario colleges, universities and Indigenous Institutes. It helps you explore defined pathways and understand how completed courses or credentials may count toward a new program, so you can plan your next step with confidence.
Transfer courses
Course transfer allows you to bring individual courses or completed credentials into a new program so you don’t have to start over.
What to do:
The Course Transfer helps you find individual courses that may be recognized as equivalent at another Ontario college, university or Indigenous Institute. It shows how completed or in-progress courses could count toward a new program, helping you keep your progress instead of starting over.
