Mobility and transfer for mature learners

Learner mobility means having the ability to change your path once you start postsecondary education. It’s about keeping your options open — so if you take a break, you can move to a different program or school later for whatever reason.

Transfer is one way learner mobility works. It happens when courses, credentials or recognized learning from previous study or experience are accepted toward a new program at a college, university or Indigenous Institute. This may include formal coursework, completed credentials or learning recognized through Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR).

For learners, mobility and transfer may involve:

returning to education after a pause
changing programs or institutions
building on previous courses or credentials
using work experience or prior training through PLAR
continuing learning without starting over
