Exploring options for skilled trades
About Skilled Trades Ontario
Skilled Trades Ontario is an agency of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development responsible for apprenticeship and skilled trades certification in Ontario.
If you have a Canadian Forces Certificate of Military Achievement with a Qualification Level 5 (QL5) or Developmental Period 2 (DP2) rating in one of nine eligible military trades, you can apply to have it matched to a civilian trade through a streamlined Trade Equivalency Assessment — you will not need to provide detailed evidence of on-the-job experience and trade skills or references. Additionally, to support veterans in their transition from military to civilian life, Skilled Trades Ontario provides an exemption from assessment fees.
About Helmets to Hardhats
Helmets to Hardhats (H2H) is a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for military-connected individuals and their families to find meaningful careers in the skilled trades.
ONCAT recognizes that military-connected learners may encounter obstacles and delays when trying to begin or resume their postsecondary studies. With support from the Government of Ontario, ONCAT is developing multiple programs, projects and pathways that will expand access to publicly assisted colleges, universities and Indigenous Institutes — helping military-connected learners pursue their next education and employment goals.
