Students beginning studies in the Music Industry Arts & Performance program since Winter 2020 will receive the following 10.0 transfer credits: 

  • 0.5 WRIT 1001H – Write in Time
  • 1.0 unassigned Cultural Studies credits at the 1000 level
  • 2.0 unassigned Cultural Studies credits at the 2000 level
  • 1.0 unassigned Cultural Studies credit at the 3000 level
  • 0.5 unassigned Business Administration credit at the 1000 level
  • 2.0 unassigned Arts credits at the 1000 level
  • 3.0 unassigned Arts credits at the 2000 level


Transfer credits for students who began studies in the Music Industry Arts and Performance program prior to Winter 2020 will be awarded on a course-by-course basis.

*Additional notes: Students must complete MIAP 120 – Popular Music in Culture or MIAP 220 – Worlds of Music as the Block A Elective in order to receive the transfer credit block outlined above. Students who have completed MIAP 121 – History of Western Art Music instead of MIAP 120 or MIAP 220 are eligible to receive 0.5 unassigned Arts credit at the 1000 level in place of 0.5 unassigned Cultural Studies credit at the 1000 level, provided they notify Admissions at Trent (admissions@trentu.ca).

  • Successfully completed Centennial College's Music Industry Arts and Performance Advanced Diploma;
  • A minimum overall average of 75%.

Program Residency Requirement

Students must complete the following 10.0 credits to fulfill requirements for the Cultural Studies degree:

  • 0.5 CUST 1500 – Introduction to the Study of Modern Culture
  • 3.0 Cultural Studies credits at the 2000 and/or 3000 level(s)
  • 2.0 Cultural Studies credits at the 4000 level
  • 4.5 elective credits

*Additional Notes: 

  • In addition to 4000-level requirements above, students must complete at least 4.0 additional credits at the 3000 and/or 4000 level(s). Elective credits must include no more than 3.0 credits at the 1000 level. Students must complete at least 0.5 credit from the Approved Indigenous Course List through program or elective requirements.
  • Students entering Trent through this pathway should take CUST 1500H – Introduction to the Study of Modern Culture in the first semester at Trent. Students transferring to Trent through this pathway have the prerequisites necessary to enroll in 2000 and 3000 level Cultural Studies courses, and as a result, can enroll in these courses alongside CUST 1500H. 
  • While the transfer credits awarded in this pathway provide the prerequisites necessary to enroll in 4000 level Cultural Studies courses, students should not enroll in 4000 level courses until the second year at Trent. 
  • Students have the option to pursue a Specialization in Film and Media as part of their studies at Trent. To fulfill requirements for the Specialization, students must complete at least 4.0 credits in Cultural Studies from Category C. Cancellation Policy

The agreement will be reviewed annually, or sooner in the event of major curriculum changes in either partner’s programs. This agreement may be terminated by either party. In this case, notice of one year is required. In the event of termination of the agreement, every effort will be made to ensure that students currently enrolled in the program will not be affected.
