  • Ontario Tech University awards block credit, specified (equivalencies) and unspecified credits in recognition of previous learning.

  • The amount of transfer credit you can receive is limited by Ontario Tech University’s residency policy. The policy states that at least half (50%) of a student's courses must be completed at the University. In addition, some programs may limit the amount of transfer credit granted (a maximum of 60 credit hours [20 courses] in a degree).

  • Ontario Tech University will consider all courses for transfer credit, regardless of currency.

  • Follow these steps in order to receive your PLAR assessment at Ontario Tech University:

    Challenge Exam

    • Faculties may offer examinations that allow students to demonstrate their competence in a subject for the purpose of advance standing. Please consult the appropriate Dean’s Office for further details.
  • A PLAR assessment at Ontario Tech University costs 50% of the applicable tuition fee.

  • Transfer credits will be recorded on your Ontario Tech University transcript as "T" and will not be included in GPA calculation.

  • Familiarize yourself with Ontario Tech University’s official credit transfer policies (excludes students entering a Bachelor of Engineering program):

  • Follow these steps in order to receive your transfer credit assessment at Ontario Tech University (excludes students entering a Bachelor of Engineering program):

    • A preliminary transfer credit assessment will be made available to applicants at the offer of admission via the Ontario Tech Applicant Portal.
    • Applicants will have an opportunity to submit course outlines (syllabi) for courses with no active Ontario Tech equivalencies. The detailed steps are outlined below.
    • Syllabi being requested by the transfer credit office can be submitted through the Syllabus Submission form on the transfer credit webpage.
    • Attach all institutionally-prepared course outlines (syllabi) from your previous and/or present institution(s) in either a PDF format. Ontario Tech does not accept paper copies of course outlines (syllabi) for curriculum evaluation. Each submitted syllabus must be submitted through the form separately unless otherwise specified. Syllabi submissions that are not in the required electronic format, or not separated into individual submissions, will not be accepted. If you are unable to produce an electronic version in the acceptable format, please contact the Transfer Credit office at transfercredit@ontariotechu.ca
    • Once the assessment for transfer credit is complete, you will receive the results electronically via the MYOntarioTech Applicant Portal.
       

    Bachelor of Engineering Students

    • Once a student has accepted an offer of admission to a Bachelor of Engineering program, they will receive a transfer credit assessment requesting any course syllabi that may relate to the Ontario Tech program map for the engineering program to which they have been admitted.
       
  • A transfer credit assessment at Ontario Tech University is included in the supplemental/document evaluation fee paid via the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC).

  • The documentation required to have your previously completed postsecondary education assessed for transfer credit at Ontario Tech University includes: 

    • Official transcript(s)
    • Course outline(s) (institutionally-prepared, electronic copies)
  • An application form is not required at Ontario Tech University. Applicants who have previously attended a postsecondary institution are generally automatically assessed for transfer credit.

  • Transfer credit is generally automatically assessed at Ontario Tech University. While an application form is not required, applicants are encouraged to provide all supporting documentation, including institutionally-prepared course outlines (syllabi), three months prior to their intended start term. This will help ensure a timely assessment.

  • Transfer credit decisions at the Ontario Tech University are generally provided with your offer of admission. However, if submitting course outlines (syllabi) for courses with no active Ontario Tech equivalencies, a transfer credit decision will take 8 weeks to process once all documentation is submitted. Failure to include all documentation will result in a delay. Requests are processed in the order they are received. Evaluation of Engineering transfer credit assessments can take up to 12 weeks to process.

  • A transfer credit decision cannot be reviewed/appealed at Ontario Tech University. Assessments are conducted by the appropriate Faculty and all decisions are final.
