  • Review the admission requirements for all programs at the University of Ottawa:

  • The minimum grade required to transfer a course to the University of Ottawa is 50% or a passing grade, whichever is higher, for college applicants and 60% or higher for university applicants.

  • The University of Ottawa awards advanced standing in recognition of previous academic learning.

  • The amount of transfer credit you can receive is limited by the University of Ottawa's residency policy. The policy states that at least 50% of program requirements must be completed at the University.

  • The University of Ottawa will consider all courses for transfer credit, regardless of currency, with the exception of certain subjects where a time limit of completion may be set.

  • Follow these steps in order to receive your PLAR assessment at the University of Ottawa:

    • Complete and sign the University of Ottawa's ‘Request for Prior-Learning Recognition’ form and submit it to your faculty or school either in person or by mail, along with the required supporting documents. Remember that you have to submit all materials in either French or English – or provide a certified translation if they were produced originally in another language. The material can include your resume, descriptions of your experience and prior learning, assignments, employer letters, etc. To check the validity of your documents, the assessor may contact the employers and other references you list in your request.
    • Pay two non-refundable administrative fees to the University of Ottawa to have your request's eligibility examined and the other for the assessment itself if your request is deemed eligible. By submitting a request for prior-learning recognition, you are agreeing to pay all related fees (these fees cannot be refunded retroactively). The amounts owed, as well as the method of payment, will appear on your statement of account in uoZone (www.uottawa.ca/en/students).   • A PLAR assessment at the University of Ottawa costs $25.00 to have your request's eligibility examined and $250.00 for the assessment itself if deemed eligible. All fees are non-refundable (http://www.registrar.uottawa.ca/Portals/43/Registrar/Regi3170e.pdf).

  • Transfer credits will be recorded on your University of Ottawa transcript as "Q" or “X” for exemptions and will not be included in GPA calculation.

  • Familiarize yourself with the University of Ottawa’s official credit transfer policies:

  • Follow these steps in order to receive your transfer credit assessment at the University of Ottawa:

    • Apply online through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) website using the OUAC 105D form. A secondary school transcript is required if you took the prerequisite courses for your program in high school. You are responsible for having your high school transcript sent to the University of Ottawa as well as official descriptions of all courses taken in college and university that could be recognized for advanced standing (descriptions must come from the academic calendar or bear the college/university seal).
    • We will acknowledge receipt of your application within 2 weeks by e-mail. Save this message, because it contains your username and the password to track your application.
    • Check the status of your application through uoZone in your admission file. The log in information is in the acknowledgement of receipt of your application.
  • There is no fee required for a transfer credit assessment at the University of Ottawa.  Please note that for University transfer students, we evaluate the advance standing once you have accepted your offer.

  • The documentation required to have your previously completed postsecondary education assessed for transfer credit at the University of Ottawa includes:

    • Official transcript(s) 
    • Codes and titles of courses
  • An application form is not required at the University of Ottawa. Applicants who have previously attended a postsecondary institution are automatically assessed for transfer credit.  Please note that for University transfer students, we evaluate the advance standing once you have accepted your offer.

  • Transfer credit is automatically assessed at the University of Ottawa. Students must disclose all previous postsecondary education (transcripts) upon submitting their admissions application. All required supporting documentation should be submitted in accordance with the deadlines associated with your program and semester of admission.

  • Transfer credit decisions at the University of Ottawa are generally provided with your offer of admission with the exception of university transfers.

  • A transfer credit decision cannot be reviewed/appealed at the University of Ottawa. All transfer credit assessments are final.
