  • Collège La Cité awards advanced standing in recognition of previous learning (http://www.collegelacite.ca/equivalences-acceptees).

  • The amount of transfer credit you can receive is limited by Collège La Cité's residency policy. The policy states that at least 25% of the total hours of instruction in a program of study must be successfully completed at the College. For a bachelor’s degree, no more than 50% of the program’s total hours will be recognized as part of a Prior Learning Assessment (see the pedagogical directive Obtaining Certification or Qualification).

  • All currency considerations at Collège La Cité are dependent on the course and program in which you are enrolled.

  • Follow these steps in order to receive your PLAR assessment at Collège La Cité:

    Portfolio Process 

    • Assessment method that involves examining a dossier that presents in an organized fashion certain accomplishments (e.g., documents, drawings, sketches or other relevant information) that prove that the expected learning outcomes of a course were achieved.
    • We encourage you to make an appointment (http://www.collegelacite.ca/formulaire-rda).
    • You may also visit Room A1080, located near the Office of Admissions and the Registrar, or call (613) 742-2483 x 2866.
    • Complete a ‘Prior Learning Assessment Request’ form and pay the administrative fees.
    • Submit your portfolio. The score awarded to you for the portfolio will automatically go on your academic record unless you fail or refuse. To refuse the score awarded, you must send an e-mail to the following address within 48 hours of receiving your score confirmation: rda@lacitec.on.ca.
    • It is recommended that students who request a Prior Learning Assessment must still take the course(s) in question until they are officially granted credit. It is strongly recommended that you undertake your Prior Learning Assessment 2-3 months prior to the course(s) start date.
    • For a Prior Learning Assessment review/appeal students must follow the request for review of final grade process (see the pedagogical directive Application for Review of Final Notes).

    Challenge Exam

    • Handwritten or electronic assessment method administered to measure students’ knowledge or skills in relation to the expected learning outcomes of a course.
    • We encourage you to make an appointment (http://www.collegelacite.ca/formulaire-rda).
    • You may also visit Room A1080, located near the Office of Admissions and the Registrar, or call (613) 742-2483 x 2866.
    • Complete a ‘Prior Learning Assessment Request’ form and pay the administrative fees.
    • Write the challenge exam. The score awarded to you in the challenge exam will automatically go on your academic record unless you fail or refuse. To refuse the score awarded, you must send an e-mail to the following address within 48 hours of receiving your score confirmation: rda@lacitec.on.ca.

  • A PLAR assessment at Collège La Cité is based on an hourly rate of $1.25. The fee is $1.25 for each course hour; the minimum cost per course has been set at $20; and the maximum cost per course has been set at $158.27 (https://www.collegelacite.ca/demande-equivalence.htm).

  • Transfer credits will be recorded on your Collège La Cité transcript as "EQ" and will not be included in GPA calculation.

  • Familiarize yourself with Collège La Cité’s official credit transfer policies:

  • Follow these steps in order to receive your transfer credit assessment at Collège La Cité:

    • Complete an ‘Advanced Standing Request’ form and pay the administrative fees.
    • The ‘Advanced Standing Request’ form must be submitted to the Office of Admissions and the Registrar, Room A1130, before the end of the first month of the academic semester, i.e., September 30, January 31, and May 31.
    • You may submit your form by e-mail to registraire@lacitec.on.ca, by fax to (613) 742-2481,   or in person to Room A1130 (if possible, avoid the period from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm).
    • It is recommended that students who request Advanced Standing must still take the course(s) in question until they are officially granted the Advanced Standing. It is strongly recommended that you submit your Advanced Standing request 2-3 weeks prior to the course(s) start date.
  • A transfer credit assessment at Collège La Cité is based on an hourly rate of $1.25. The fee is $1.25 for each course hour; the minimum cost per course has been set at $20; and the maximum cost per course has been set at $158.27 (https://www.collegelacite.ca/demande-equivalence.htm).

  • The documentation required to have your previously completed postsecondary education assessed for transfer credit at Collège La Cité includes:

    • Official transcript(s) (indicating grade achieved in the course)
    • Course outline(s) (curriculum for the course(s) subject to Advanced Standing, unless it is a course(s) taken at Collège La Cité or a course(s) already recognized)
    • Completed ‘Request for Advanced Standing’ application form
  • Complete the application form at Collège La Cité:

  • Apply to transfer credit at Collège La Cité within the first month of each semester (September, January and May) (https://portail.collegelacite.ca/group/portail-employe/calendrier-scolaire).

  • A transfer credit decision at Collège La Cité will take approximately 2-3 weeks to process.

  • A transfer credit decision cannot be reviewed/appealed at Collège La Cité.

    All transfer credit assessments are final.
