  The minimum grade required to transfer a course to Laurentian University is a "C+". The grade achieved will impact the number of transfer credits received. For example "C+", "B" and "A" will each receive varying amounts of transfer credit.

• Types of Credit Awarded

  Laurentian University awards advanced standing in recognition of previous learning from recognized colleges and universities. 

• Residency Requirements

  Laurentian University’s program residency requirements policy limits the number of transfer credits you can receive as advanced standing. For most programs, the residency rule is 30 credits must be completed at Laurentian University (some exceptions do apply). 

• Currency/Timing of Previous Postsecondary Education

  Laurentian University will consider all courses for transfer credit, regardless of currency.

• PLAR Procedures/Steps

  Follow these steps in order to receive your PLAR assessment at Laurentian University:

  • Laurentian University does not grant PLAR credits, with the exception of the Law and Justice program.
• PLAR Costs

  There is no fee required for a PLAR assessment at Laurentian University for students in the Law and Justice program.

• Appearance of Awarded Transfer Credit(s) on Transcript

  Transfer credits will be recorded on your Laurentian University transcript as total credits awarded and will not be included in GPA calculation. 

  Your academic summary will list the exact equivalencies that were awarded. For example, credits awarded may be listed as a course that exists at Laurentian University (PSYC 1105) or an equivalency (PSYC 9100). In both cases, the grade is not included in GPA calculation.

  Follow these steps in order to receive your transfer credit assessment at Laurentian University:

  • Apply online to Laurentian University through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) at www.ouac.on.ca.
  • Please contact your previous institution to arrange for your official transcript(s) from high school, college or university to be forwarded to our Office of Admissions. For more information visit: https://laurentian.ca/college-transfer-applicants.
• Transfer Credit Costs

  There is no fee required for a transfer credit assessment at Laurentian University.

• Transfer Credit Required Documentation

  The documentation required to have your previously completed postsecondary education assessed for transfer credit at Laurentian University includes: 

  • Copy of the previous transcript(s) 
    • Note that a final, official transcript must be received to confirm credits.
  • Course descriptions may be requested by the Admissions Officer as required to determine the equivalency. 
• Transfer Credit Application Form(s)

  An application form is not required at Laurentian University. Applicants who have previously attended a postsecondary institution are automatically assessed for transfer credit.

• Deadline(s) for Application

  Apply to transfer credit at Laurentian University no later than one month before the start of your first academic term.

• Timing of Transfer Credit Decisions

  Transfer credit decisions at Laurentian University are generally provided with your offer of admission, where possible. In some cases, a list of transferred credits will be provided shortly after the offer of admission.

• Review/Appeal Procedures

  A transfer credit decision cannot be reviewed/appealed at Laurentian University. All transfer credit assessments are final.
