  • The minimum grade required to transfer a course to Lakehead University for college applicants is 70% or “B” in diploma level courses. For university applicants, a minimum grade of 60% or “C” must be achieved in degree level courses.

  • Lakehead University awards specified (equivalencies) and unspecified credits in recognition of previous learning. Wherever possible, if the course content is the same, direct specific equivalencies are awarded.

  • The amount of transfer credit you can receive is limited by Lakehead University’s residency policy. The policy states at least the last full year of a student’s program (a minimum of 5 full-course equivalents) must be completed at Lakehead University.

  • Lakehead University will consider all courses for transfer credit, regardless of currency, with the exception of highly technical and professional programs. The appropriate Faculty will determine if transfer credit is granted for courses not recently completed. Undergraduate Admissions will facilitate this process for applicants.

  • Follow these steps in order to receive your PLAR assessment at Lakehead University:

  • Follow these steps in order to receive your transfer credit assessment at Lakehead University:

    • After applying to Lakehead University send Enrolment Services – Undergraduate Admissions a copy of your official transcript(s) as well as copies of institutionally prepared course descriptions. Your transcript(s) can be sent to Enrolment Services from your home institution, or from the OUAC using their transcript request functionality on the OUAC 105 application. All course descriptions can be scanned and e-mailed to Upon receipt of your transcripts and course descriptions, a transfer credit assessment will be conducted.
    • If you are applying to a program in which we have a multilateral or articulation agreement, course descriptions are not required as part of your application submission.
    • If you are currently in-progress with courses, a transfer credit evaluation will still occur for the courses you have completed to date. Once a final official transcript has been received, a final transfer credit evaluation will be completed. Once a transfer credit evaluation has been completed, you will be notified via your Lakehead University e-mail account.   • A transfer credit assessment at Lakehead University costs $60.00 (document evaluation fee) at the time of application.

  • The documentation required to have your previously completed postsecondary education assessed for transfer credit at Lakehead University includes: 

    • Official transcript(s)
    • Course description(s)  (exception: not in the case of multilateral or articulation agreements)
    • Language proficiency requirements may be required
    • Additional program-specific information (consent form and reference letter for Nursing applicants, audition and theory test for Music applicants, portfolio for Media, Film and Communications applicants)
  • A transfer credit application form is not required at Lakehead University. Applicants who have previously attended a postsecondary institution are automatically assessed for transfer credit once all required documentation has been received.

  • Apply to transfer credit at Lakehead University by March 1st in order to ensure that your assessment is finalized before course registration opens. Applications will still be accepted after this date for most programs.

  • A transfer credit decision at Lakehead University will take a minimum of 3 weeks from the date of receipt of all documentation (i.e. official transcripts, course descriptions) to process.
