  • Review the admission requirements for all programs at Algonquin College:

  • The minimum grade required to transfer a course to Algonquin College is 63%, “C”, 2.0 /4.0 or equivalent.

  • View Algonquin College’s degree pathway opportunities:

  • Algonquin College awards advanced standing and exemptions (equivalencies) in recognition of previous learning.

  • The amount of transfer credit you can receive is limited by Algonquin College’s residency policy. The policy states that at least 25% of the hours of instruction required in a program of study must be completed at the College. Programs may require residency immediately prior to graduation.

  • Algonquin College will consider courses completed within the past 5 years for transfer credit, with the exception of General Education electives, which do not require completion within a specified time frame.

  • Follow these steps in order to receive your PLAR assessment at Algonquin College:

    • Understand PLAR and how it relates to coursework and General Education themes.
    • Use resource guides to determine relevance and assessment criteria or, if no resource guide is available, contact the PLAR Administrator.
    • Contact the PLAR Administrator to discuss questions, application and fees.
    • Complete applicable PLAR assessment materials and submit portfolio for evaluation to the PLAR Administrator.
    • Credit recognition granted if assessment is successful.
    • Once PLAR credits have been achieved, the Registrar’s Office will record your credits on your official transcript. Your PLAR credit will be recorded as a grade when possible; otherwise a non-graded “CR” credit designation will be assigned. A failed attempt at a prior learning assessment will not be recorded on your transcript.
  • A PLAR assessment at Algonquin College costs $95.00-$119.00 per regular and General Education course. 

  • Transfer credits will be recorded on your Algonquin College transcript as "EX" and will not be included in GPA calculation.

  • Follow these steps in order to receive your transfer credit assessment at Algonquin College:

    Woodroffe Campus and Online Students

    • Choose your preferred program, review your transfer pathway options and plan to apply.
    • You will need official transcripts and your course outlines (with hours) to continue with your request.
    • Complete the online application available via your Algonquin College Student Information System (ACSIS) account.
    • Continue your studies until the evaluation process is complete. The Registrar’s Office Client Service Officers will review your application. Academic teams will assess your request. Monitor your request by logging into ACSIS. You will receive an e-mail informing you of the decision of your transfer request.
    • If your request is approved, you may wish to modify your course load within your program of study to maintain full-time status for funding, like the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), and other eligibilities.

    Perth and Pembroke Campus Students

    • Choose your preferred program, review your transfer pathway options and plan to apply.
    • You will need official transcripts and your course outlines (with hours) to continue with your request.
    • Complete the ‘External Transfer of Academic Credit (Exemption)’ or 'Advanced Standing' application to identify your transfer request with the courses you completed. Submit all documents in one package to the Registrar’s Office.
    • Continue your studies until the evaluation process is complete. The Registrar’s Office Client Service Officers will review your application. Academic teams will assess your request. Monitor your request by logging into ACSIS. You will receive an e-mail informing you of the decision of your transfer request.
    • If your request is approved, you may wish to modify your course load within your program of study to maintain full-time status for funding, like the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), and other eligibilities.
  • A transfer credit assessment at Algonquin College costs $10.00 and advanced standing $50.00.

  • The documentation required to have your previously completed postsecondary education assessed for transfer credit at Algonquin College includes:

    • Official transcript(s)
    • Course outline(s)
    • Completed online, ‘External Transfer of Academic Credit (Exemption)’ or 'Advanced Standing' application form
  • Complete the applicable application form(s) at Algonquin College:

    Woodroffe Campus and Online Students

    Perth Campus Students 

    Pembroke Campus Students

  • Apply to transfer credit at Algonquin College within the 10-day add/drop period for the current semester. Exemptions submitted after this time will still be accepted, although they will be processed for the next semester.

  • A transfer credit decision at Algonquin College will take 4-6 weeks to process, depending on the volume of requests. The Registrar's Office will e-mail you if a credit was denied.

  • A transfer credit decision can be reviewed/appealed at Algonquin College by requesting a meeting with your Academic Department Chair.
